Starter Replacement
[edit]
Removal
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Raise the vehicle, support it securely on jack stands or ramps.
- From under the vehicle, disconnect the solenoid wire and battery cable from the terminals on the solenoid.
- Remove the two (15mm) starter motor bolts, note the position of the long and short bolts.
- Remove the starter motor, note the location of the spacer shims, if equipped.
[edit]
Installation
- Raise the starter motor into place.
- Insert the bolt closest to the engine block and thread it by hand until you can let go of the starter without it falling.
- Insert the shims in between the starter and the engine block until they are in all the way. The shims have an open end to fit around the already installed bolt. You may need to reposition the starter by twisting it to get the shims in.
- Insert the second bolt through the starter, insuring that the bolts go through the closed hole of the shims.
- Tighten both bolts snugly
- Reconnect the starter wires to both the motor and the solenoid.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable
