Recommended Fluids
General Information
The following listed fluids are the one recommended by the manufacturer. Manufacturers upgrade their fluids from time to time (i.e dexron II -> III -> IV), most often you can subsitite a higher grade fluid (IV instead of III) in place of a lower grade where applicable. It is not recommended however that you use a lower grade fluid than what was originally recommended by the OEM.
Engine Oil
10w-30 in all but the coldest regions. For colder climates, 5w-30 is the recommended oil.
Capacity
All engine sizes: 4 qts. + .5 qt when changing the oil filter.
Automatic Transaxle
Dexron II specified, use of Dexron III or IV recommended where available.
Capacity
Initial refill after dropping the pan: 4 qts.
Manual Transaxle
- 1982 : Dexron II/III/IV
- 1983-87: 5w-30 engine oil
- 1988-on: GM Syncromesh manual tranaxle fluid
Capacity
2 qts.
Coolant
50/50 mixture of ethylene glycol-based antifreeze and water
Capacity
- L4: 10 qts.
- V6: 14 qts.
Power Steering
Generic power steering fluid meeting GM part# 1052884 specifications
Brake system
DOT 3 brake fluid specified
